NYC Moving Tips

1. Make a Moving list.

Whether moving from an apartment in New York City to a brownstone in Brooklyn, or a condo in Manhattan to a house in LA to keep your move organized, write everything down! You’ll thank your­self later. Before you pack even one box, create a simple record keeping system. The easiest way is to use your computer and print out a moving list of numbered with a space to write the contents of each room of your NY Apartment. Remember, you have to unpack and reassemble all these items wherever you move to, so keep picture hooks with pictures, shelves and shelf brackets together with the bookcase they came from, include any special tools and bolts and wall unit bolts. Keep larger items and pieces along with any screws together with corresponding items (such as a cable TV cord) in a sealable plastic bag, and tape these with movers tape to the underside or back of the item.

7. Pack for your move ahead of time.

Moving is time consuming and can be emotional. The more you can pack ahead of time, the less you will need to do on the actual moving day. Pack “seasonally. If you are moving in the winter, first pack your summer items into boxes then you can unpack these last. Keep one television and one radio available; pack the others up in advance of your move.
