The love of pet owners for their cute furry friends is immeasurable. People, who own pets, care for them more than anything in the world. They want them to be comfortable and happy at all times. Moving from one city to another is stressful for us, but it is as stressful for them as well. They unfamiliar activities and surroundings make them uncomfortable and behave in a weird manner.
To ensure that no harm and discomfort is caused to your pets, here are some helpful tips that would come in handy during your move:
1. Inform your vet about your move. Check if your pet has a condition that may worsen after you move and ask for a treatment. Finding a new and reliable vet in a new place can be a bit difficult and time taking, so it’s better, if you get finished with all the shots your pet is due for.
2. The most important thing is to arrange a sedative for your pet. Long distance travel and the mode of transportation are often unfamiliar with pets, which causes them discomfort and makes them sick. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Most of the sedatives are quite mild which will help take the edge off. Ask your vet for the proper dosages.
3. If you are flying, get a health certificate from your veterinarian. Sometimes, it is mandatory that the certificate has to be dated thirty days before your scheduled travel. Make sure you got all the necessary certificates required.
4. Get your pet cleaned up and groomed a week before you leave. They need to smell clean as you travel and their nails trimmed. Give cats a good brushing when you move. Make sure your pet is wearing proper identification and tags or they could get lost.
During the moving preparations your pets could often be the last thing on your mind which could make them feel neglected and unloved. After moving, give your pets time to adjust to the new neighborhood. Do not let them roam the area freely until they get familiar with the new home, or they could get lost.
